The story
Lucky Khao brought a taste of Northern Thailand to Brighton’s St James’s Street, serving charcoal-grilled meats and bold, aromatic flavours. The restaurant describes itself simply as “Northern Thai Barbecue (and other delights)” — a promise of direct, unfiltered cooking that puts fire and spice at the centre of the meal.
For 2026, Lucky Khao earned a Michelin Recommended award, a recognition that speaks to the quality and conviction of the cooking. The guide’s inspectors identified this small Brighton spot as one to watch, validating the team’s focus on regional Thai cuisine done without shortcuts.
The restaurant operated on a walk-in basis, welcoming spontaneous diners, and also offered space for private parties and larger groups. Its relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere matched the food: no fuss, just good eating.
Lucky Khao is currently closed while the team opens a new restaurant in Soho, London. But the Brighton original will return in 2026. For now, the promise remains: eat with them “in BKK right here” when they reopen.
