The story

Adelina Yard, Bristol – Modern European Fine Dining by Jamie Randall & Olivia Barry

The Chefs

Adelina Yard is the work of chefs Jamie Randall and Olivia Barry, both graduates of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts. Jamie trained at Thanet Catering College and was part of the team that earned Galvin La Chapelle its Michelin star, later serving as head chef at Odettes in London. Olivia, a Bristol native, worked under Angela Hartnett at the Michelin-starred Murano in Mayfair and with the Galvin brothers after achieving a distinction in her diploma. Together, they bring deep expertise to their own kitchen.

The Food

The kitchen focuses on Modern European cuisine, built around locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce. The lunch menu is a four-course set priced at £43, available Wednesday through Saturday. Dinner is a longer, more elaborate affair, with tasting menus that showcase the chefs’ precision and creativity. A recent review highlights a dish of Jerusalem artichoke with chanterelle risotto, alongside a rich duck ragu served with cylinders of swede and cavolo nero. The restaurant can accommodate pescatarian and vegetarian diets, though other restrictions are limited due to the nature of the menu.

The Setting

Despite the high-level cooking, the atmosphere is deliberately relaxed and informal. The dining room avoids stiffness, letting the food speak for itself. The venue also offers a Chef’s Table (note: high bar stools, not suitable for those with mobility issues) and private hire for special occasions or corporate events. Gift vouchers are available, starting at £50, and can be used for lunch experiences or open amounts.

Recognition

Adelina Yard’s meticulous approach has earned a Michelin Recommended citation, a fitting acknowledgment for a restaurant that critics have called “world-class” and “at the top table” in Bristol. The team’s combination of formal training and unfussy hospitality makes this a place where the cooking – and the charm – is genuinely worth seeking out.

The Good Food Guide — Good

Tucked away along a cobbled street in Bristol's historic harbour district, Adelina Yard is every inch the modern city restaurant. An on-view kitchen, filament lighting and rough-topped tables set the tone, and the food arrives on defiantly chunky crockery. Autumn reporters who relaxed into the eight-course seasonal taster found nothing they didn't like, from the astonishing food to the wine flight to the knowledgeable, friendly staff. Olivia Barry and Jamie Randall cooked all over London, including various Galvin brothers' venues, before opening here, and their experience shows in the innovative, always fascinating dishes. Aged beef fillet with smoked ox heart, burrata, buckwheat and ponzu as a preliminary course is a fantastic composition in both senses. Fish dishes are inspiring in their robustness (perhaps hake with mussels in lovage-scented vin jaune), while meats are left to speak up for themselves in the sheer quality of Cornish lamb, supported by turnip and a dressing of wild garlic, anchovy and capers. When two desserts are the drill, expect something light and fragrant first – apple, cucumber, sorrel – and then the full stonk of chocolate, praline and malt. Four-course lunches are worth expanding the midday break for, and the vegetarian versions are full of imaginative energy too – get set for beetroot, burnt apple and pickled kelp. Classic cocktails and a compact wine list add to the merriment.
