The story

RAGÙ Bristol: Italian Sharing Plates with Michelin Bib Gourmand

RAGÙ: A Love Letter to Italian Hospitality

RAGÙ is a small, welcoming Italian sharing plates restaurant in Wapping Wharf, Bristol. The team behind it describes it as a love letter to the wonderful food, culture, and warm hospitality experienced in Italy. The focus is simple: quality ingredients, prepared simply, with love.

From the team behind the acclaimed COR restaurant, RAGÙ is the second venture of husband-and-wife team Mark and Karen Chapman. Mark’s extensive experience includes leading Gambas tapas bar, which earned a Michelin plate, and now both COR and RAGÙ have been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide – a mark of good quality, good value cooking. RAGÙ made the list in 2025 and 2026, placing it among the UK’s best for accessible, excellent food.

The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Vyck Colsell, with Head Chef Chris Evans and Restaurant Manager Mia Fleur Virdee at the helm day-to-day. The menu changes seasonally, offering a selection of sharing plates that highlight the best of Italian cuisine. Guests can come alone for an aperitif, enjoy a full family feast, or simply drop in for a slice of the infamous tiramisu. The restaurant welcomes walk-ins as much as reservations.

RAGÙ’s ethos extends beyond the plate. The team is deeply committed to community, working with local and national charities, and supporting causes from education in Kenya to homelessness in the UK. The space itself is designed to be accessible, with disabled access via the Wapping Wharf car park and lift.

Located in the vibrant Cargo 2 development, RAGÙ offers a genuine taste of Italian warmth and flavour in the heart of Bristol. It’s a place where good food and good people come together, simply and with love.

If you’re a fan of Bedminster’s hip, Mediterranean sharing plates diner, Cor, then the arrival of its sister restaurant in Tare Bistro's recently vacated shipping container on Bristol's Harbourside will be a cause for rejoicing. It's a tiny space, but it feels light and bright, with window-box foliage and framed pictures adding splashes of colour. The sharing concept remains, while the food is emphatically focused on Italy – so expect perfectly balanced plates of sunshine-drenched flavours. Pasta dishes are surprisingly thin on the ground (tagliolini with crab, chilli, parsley, Amalfi lemon and pangrattato, say), but this is no loss. Instead, the menu runs from delicious morsels such as a pair of crispy Roman artichoke fritti with silky aïoli to a hefty plateful involving succulent shards of lamb shoulder in a pool of pea ragù with salsa verde and pecorino. A word to the wise – if you see tomato brodo on the menu, order it. Likewise, it would be remiss to turn down the wickedly indulgent chocolate budino with amaretti crumb and glistening cherries – though the selection of Italian cheese served with grapes and homemade focaccia crostini is equally tempting. The drinks list is strong on refreshing aperitifs and vermouths, as well as offering a good selection of modestly priced house wines.
