The story

Blake’s Kitchen Clanfield: A Village Bakery Hub on the Cotswolds Edge

A Family Legacy Transformed

Blake’s Kitchen in Clanfield operates as a dedicated bakery café on the edge of the Cotswolds. Nic Blake left her career as a university dietitian in 2014 to help her mother Janet run the premises, followed by husband Dan joining the team in 2018. The three generations now manage daily operations together while overseeing new branches at Soho Farmhouse and the Buscot estate.

Daily Baking and Seasonal Specials

Zealous sourcing drives the morning routine across this village bakery. Staff ferment sourdough over three days using regional flour, yielding loaves like the malt crunch variety that secured Best Multigrain Loaf at the 2019 World Bread Awards. Sticky cinnamon buns remain the signature bake, with approximately sixty thousand crafted last year. Fresh salads and rotating lunch plates appear alongside the pastries throughout the week.

Community Focus and Recognition

The Good Food Guide named this location a Local Gem, noting its steady daytime trade and practical layout. A functioning post office counter shares the ground floor with the takeaway window, reinforcing its role as a neighbourhood utility. Warm weather shifts the crowd outdoors under a canvas sail awning, where locals gather for coffee and sandwiches between errands.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

Locals heap praise on this amiable, daytime-only bakery/café, piling in for breakfast, morning coffee, sandwiches and one-plate lunchtime dishes. Blake's is the real deal. Zealous sourcing is key to the kitchen’s efforts, with bread, cakes and savouries baked daily and just about everything else made to order. The cinnamon buns are justly famous (60,000 produced in 2023), fine weather sees outside seating under a sail awning come into its own, and the café emphasises its 'village hub' feel by incorporating a post office counter. There are branches at Soho Farmhouse (private members' club) near Chipping Norton and on the Buscot and Coleshill Estates (NT) – but we say there should be a Blake's Kitchen in every village.
