The story
The Shoregate sits on the High Street of Crail, a fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife. The kitchen serves modern cuisine that draws directly from the surrounding landscape. “The East Neuk has some of the best produce and producers in the country,” the team notes, and the menu changes month by month as ingredients come in and out of season. The aim is to showcase food and drink from local suppliers while reducing food miles.
Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday, from 18:00 to 20:30. The dining room is fully accessible on the ground floor, and children are welcome. A sample menu is available on the website, but the kitchen updates one or two dishes each month to reflect what is fresh. Vegetarian options are always on offer, and vegan or gluten-free adaptations can be arranged in advance.
The restaurant’s commitment to local sourcing has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, a recognition that aligns with the careful, seasonal approach on the plate. Guests describe the evening meals as creative, beautifully presented, and generous in portion, with flavours that speak directly to the Fife coast.
Reservations for up to six people can be made online. For larger groups, the dining room can accommodate up to 28, with options including an à la carte menu, a three-course prix fixe, or a bespoke menu. The Shoregate also offers bedrooms and a bar, making it a natural stop for those exploring the East Neuk.
