The story

MINE, Falmouth – Michelin-Recommended Modern British Restaurant in Cornwall

Tucked away on the cobbles of the Old Brewery Yard, MINE is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant that feels like a dinner party – tables close, conversation easy, everyone welcome. The space is intimate, with tables spilling out into the courtyard in summer, and a laidback Cornish atmosphere that matches the cooking.

The restaurant opened in early 2020, the realisation of a dream for chef Angus Bell. Bell trained at The Star Inn at Harome (a Michelin-starred pub in North Yorkshire), then under Michel Roux Jr at Le Gavroche in London, before becoming a founding partner in the casual group Le Bab. But his ambition was always to open his own neighbourhood local – a place for thoughtful food in a relaxed setting.

At MINE, the kitchen works with the best produce Cornwall has to offer. The menu changes constantly, built around what’s available from the local larder: retired dairy beef from a neighbouring village, December lemons, by-catch bluefin tuna. The cooking is simple and playful – familiar British classics with a little decadence. A sample menu might include Torched Cornish Octopus with romesco, Pan Roasted Chicken Supreme with haricot bean cassoulet and wild garlic, or a Rio Nuevo Chocolate Mousse with clotted cream and brandy snap. Each course offers one meat, one fish and one vegan option.

The wine list, like the menu, is short but sweet – curated to complement the food, ranging from classics to the more unusual.

MINE’s commitment to quality and local sourcing has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide for 2026, a fitting recognition for a kitchen that lets Cornwall’s ingredients speak for themselves. Whether you’re stopping by for snacks and a drink in the courtyard or settling in for a full dinner, this is a restaurant that feels both special and genuinely welcoming.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

Chef Angus Bell (with the Star Inn at Harome, Le Gavroche and Le Bab in his DNA) runs this bijou terracotta-painted bistro with alfresco dining spilling out onto a characterful courtyard. Cornish produce is his passion, and he proudly serves a roster of imaginative dishes ranging from crab fritters with a rich, yellow bisque mayo to a play on vitello tonnato featuring local Primrose Herd pork drizzled with a perfectly sharp dressing of Cornish bluefin tuna and anchovies, topped with a handful of crunchy croûtons, capers and pickled caperberries. Delightful desserts might feature a deep, velvety dark chocolate délice, contrasting dreamily with candied hazelnuts, whipped cream and a perfectly brittle brandy snap.
