The story
The name says it all. Stravaigin is an old Scots word meaning ‘to wander aimlessly with intent’ – and that spirit of curious exploration runs through everything this Glasgow restaurant does. For more than twenty-five years, Stravaigin has been a trusted local sanctuary on Gibson Street, a place where experimental, worldly food meets traditional Scottish measures in a genuinely warm and lively setting.
The kitchen’s mantra is “Think Global, Eat Local.” Stravaigin has always relished the challenge of matching Scotland’s peerless larder – Shetland mussels, Perthshire venison, Fife pigeon, Inchinnan asparagus – with exotic ingredients from around the globe. The result is adventurous, great-tasting food designed for sharing, served seven days a week across the Café Bar, Mezzanine and The Cellar until late. Whether you choose from the A La Carte menu, the Cellar menu, or the Sunday Clan Sunday offering, the focus is on bold, sustainable sourcing and genuine flavour.
The Café Bar is a dog-friendly home from home, relaxed and lively, where a friendly pint goes hand in hand with plates that wander from Scotland to the world. Downstairs, The Cellar offers cosy surrounds for private hire (up to 46 guests) and regular one-off Cellar Sessions with themed menus and drinks on arrival. The venue also hosts a buzzing calendar of events, from weekly Stravaigin Sessions and a drinks club to an annual Burns Supper and open TRAD sessions.
This adventurous approach has earned Stravaigin consistent recognition. The restaurant holds a Michelin Recommended status for 2026, sits in The Times Critic’s Guide, and has been awarded an AA Rosette as well as Gastropub of the Year. These accolades celebrate a team that has built a place where eating and drinking is life, and life is meant to be fun. At Stravaigin, you’re invited to wander off the beaten path – with intent.
