The story
Deacon’s Bank sits on Market Street in Chapel-en-le-Frith, a restaurant built on hyper-local sourcing and precise technique. Chef-Patron Leo Harvey, who joined as Sous Chef before taking ownership with business partner and Maître D' Harrison in December 2025, leads a small team dedicated to Modern British cooking. Their philosophy is straightforward: beef, pork and lamb come from farms within five miles of the front door, and every ingredient is used at the height of its season. When Derbyshire cannot supply, they turn to UK producers with full traceability. Dishes are composed in-house using a wide range of culinary techniques, aiming for quality that remains accessible.
Guests can choose from several menus: Lunch, A La Carte, Chef’s Tasting, and a Sunday Roast. The wine list is extensive, with every wine available by the glass thanks to a BERMAR preservation system, and the cocktail list runs to over thirty creations including mocktails. For those who want a deeper look at the kitchen’s work, the Chef’s Table offers front-row seats to watch the team prepare the tasting menu, with explanations of the processes behind each plate.
The restaurant’s approach earned it a Michelin Recommended nod in 2026. Food critic Giles Coran of The Times called it “the best Restaurant outside of London,” praising its balance and taste. The combination of local Derbyshire produce, experienced execution, and a welcoming atmosphere makes Deacon’s Bank a compelling stop for Modern British dining in the Peak District.
