The story

Norman's Neighbourhood Kitchen | Small Plates & Asian Fusion in Huddersfield

We are a small independent restaurant & bar based in Kirkburton.

The team at Norman's Neighbourhood Kitchen takes fun seriously. In the kitchen, Will creates a regularly changing menu of small plates that draw on Asian Fusion and Mediterranean influences, while the front-of-house team – led by Oliver, Ted and Neve – looks after guests with a carefully crafted wine list, seasonal cocktails and local beers.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The restaurant is not large, so booking is advised, though a few high tables are kept for walk-ins. Good food brings people in; genuine hospitality brings them back.

Menus change frequently with the seasons, ensuring the cooking always reflects what is fresh and local. This commitment to quality and a welcoming spirit has earned Norman's Neighbourhood Kitchen a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, placing it among the best dining destinations in the region.

Whether you are stopping by for lunch or settling in for dinner, the small plates format encourages sharing and exploration. The team’s passion is evident in every detail, from the food to the drinks.

Parking is available along North Road. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 10pm.

The Good Food Guide — Good

‘It gets better every time,' exclaimed one reporter who has become a regular visitor to this stylish little bistro in a former car showroom five miles from Huddersfield. Norman's is run by sommelier Oliver Roberts and chef Will Webster (both ex-Shibden Mill Inn), who have the knack of making top-class dining and personal service look disarmingly simple. There’s creativity at every turn on the ever-changing menu, and Webster is seriously good at putting together flavours, textures and colours that sing. Snacks such as potato rösti with kipper custard typify the kitchen’s offbeat approach, while the small-plates menu might range from asparagus with scampi fries and trout roe to sturdy plates of salt-aged porterhouse steak with bone-marrow bordelaise. And there’s no let-up when it comes to dessert, which might feature dark chocolate and beef-fat fudge or kombu ice cream with Yorkshire strawberries, olive oil and nori. A ‘tight and efficient’ team runs the show with knowledgeable efficiency, and Oliver Roberts’ varied wine list makes fascinating reading. ‘Amazing cocktails’ add to the good-time vibe (anyone for Spritz & Giggles?).
