The story
For many years, Rocpool has welcomed guests to its corner site on the banks of the River Ness in the centre of Inverness. This family-owned, independent restaurant serves fresh, tasty food inspired by flavours from around the world, with fine local ingredients at their heart. The kitchen brings plenty of global zing to well-sourced Scottish produce, resulting in beautiful dishes with fresh flavours that have earned it a Michelin Recommended status.
The restaurant occupies a striking corner site with eye-catching views of the river and the ancient castle. Inside, the interior is a cool exercise in contemporary design, featuring lots of wood and a décor of natural tones. With its trendy glass frontage, 1930s-style lighting, bare surfaces and bold colours, the space brings a metropolitan buzz to the Scottish Highlands. The Good Food Guide describes it as a brasserie that brings “some sun tanned metropolitan fizz to northerly Inverness,” while The List calls it “a vibrant eatery serving fresh, tasty food in a relaxed, stylish environment.”
The menu at Rocpool is an appealing cast of crowd-pleasing Modern British dishes built on top-class Scottish produce. Guests can choose from a lunch menu, an early evening menu (available 5.30pm–6.15pm, not Saturdays), and an à la carte menu, alongside a dedicated dessert menu and a carefully selected wine list. The kitchen’s approach is contemporary and confident, letting the quality of local ingredients—from the Highlands and beyond—speak for themselves.
