The story

Twenty Seven, Kingsbridge: Michelin-Recognised Modern British Dining in Devon

A space shaped by a childhood dream

Jamie Burnard’s route to opening his own restaurant began long before he held a chef’s knife. As a child, he would walk past a former warehouse near the quay in Kingsbridge and picture himself owning it. In 2018, at the age of twenty-seven – hence the name – that dream became reality. The result is Twenty Seven, a loft-like dining room defined by clean lines, local artwork, and an atmosphere that lets the food take centre stage.

Michelin-recognised Modern British cooking

Twenty Seven’s reputation has grown quickly. The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a mark of the consistent, high-quality cooking that Jamie and his team deliver. The menus – including a Market Taster, Signature Tasting, Vegetarian Taster, Vegan Taster, and A la Carte – change with the seasons, drawing on the best of Devon’s larder. The style is Modern British: precise, ingredient-led, and unfussy in its elegance.

Private hire, events, and chef-at-home experiences

While the restaurant is currently not open for regular service, the venue remains available for private hire, events, and functions. Jamie continues to take bookings for his private chef work, bringing the Twenty Seven kitchen to your door. He has catered lavish parties at The Moult in Salcombe, thrown a seafood banquet on a speedboat for a visiting musician, and can tailor a menu for weddings, birthdays, or an intimate dinner party. For those who want to learn, the Chef Skills Day offers a behind-the-scenes morning in the kitchen with Jamie, followed by the full six-course tasting menu with matched wines.

A destination for the South Hams and beyond

Twenty Seven sits at 9 Mill Street, a short walk from the Kingsbridge waterfront. The wine list reaches from local Devon estates to fine Champagne, and guests are welcome to bring their own bottles for a corkage fee. The restaurant’s sister venues – Thirty Three by the Sea and The Lobster House – continue to welcome diners, but for those seeking a truly personal experience, a private event or chef-at-home booking with Jamie Burnard remains the most direct way to taste why this address has earned a place on the Michelin map.
