The story
Bavette is the realisation of a dream for Sandy and Clément, a couple who met while working in a London wine bar and bistro. Their shared passion for great food, wine, and genuine hospitality led them to open their own place in Sandy's hometown of Leeds, bringing Clément's native French flair to the city.
They describe Bavette as a neighbourhood bistro filled with warm, engaging hospitality. The menu is built around seasonally led, classically driven dishes, with a focus on striking a balance between generosity and quality. The team aims for that "everyday special" feel, making the bistro a love letter to the favourite places they have known and been part of.
The cooking at Bavette is rooted in French bistro traditions, with a menu that changes with the seasons. The restaurant offers an à la carte menu as well as a dedicated Sunday menu, both of which are available to preview as PDF downloads from their website. The drinks list and wine list are also carefully curated, reflecting the owners' backgrounds in wine.
This focus on good quality, good value cooking earned Bavette a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2025, an award it retained in 2026. The recognition places it among the best-value tables in the UK. In addition, the Good Food Guide named it the Best UK Local Restaurant in 2024, and Time Out named it the Best Restaurant in Leeds in 2025.
Bavette is located at 4-6 Town Street in Horsforth, a suburb of Leeds. It is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, with lunch service on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The restaurant has air conditioning, outdoor seating, and is wheelchair accessible, making it a welcoming spot for a relaxed meal. The space is designed to feel like a true neighbourhood bistro, where the hospitality is as important as the food.
