The story
In the market town of Leyburn, at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, the Sandpiper Inn offers a refined take on British pub dining. The kitchen is led by chef Jonathan Harrison, a winner of the prestigious Roux Scholarship, and the restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for its cooking.
The Sandpiper’s menu draws on the rich local produce of the Wensleydale area. The restaurant describes the surrounding landscape as a “local area, rich with local produce,” and the cooking reflects that connection to the Yorkshire Dales. The result is straightforward, ingredient-led British food that lets the quality of the produce speak for itself.
The setting is a traditional inn on the Market Place, with two boutique-style en-suite king bedrooms for those who wish to stay overnight. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a dining room that balances the character of an old pub with a more polished approach to food.
The Sandpiper Inn is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday, with food served from 12pm to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm. The restaurant is closed Sunday through Tuesday.
