The story

Andanza in London: Spanish Cooking and Coastal Flavors in Bermondsey

Northern inspiration meets Bermondsey energy

Andanza serves Spanish cooking in London, drawing directly from San Sebastián dining culture. The venue opened in 2020 and quickly settled into local routines. Guests graze on small plates ordered throughout the evening instead of following rigid course structures. This steady approach secured a 2026 Local Gem rating from The Good Food Guide.

Shared plates and coastal techniques

The kitchen builds menus around Atlantic leaning seafood and charcoal grilled proteins. Classic pintxos sit alongside properly carved jamón and house croquetas. Signature preparations feature chorizo dressed in piquillo pepper sauce and Galician octopus resting on confit potatoes. These dishes reflect the Basque balance of smoke, salt, and bright acidity that anchors their Spanish cuisine.

Oak panelling and an open kitchen

Green tiles line the walls while embossed glass windows catch the street light. A repurposed church pew frames the open kitchen where cooks work within view of the dining room. The layout nods to Jerez tabancos, favouring unpretentious energy over formal service rules. Spanish wines flow steadily through this cosy space.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

San Sebastián comes to Bermondsey in the shape of this ‘fiercely independent’ venue set up by the team behind the Rose pub across the road. Green tiles, embossed windows, carved oak panelling and an open kitchen behind a repurposed church pew set the scene, while local suppliers furnish a menu where seasonal pintxos are the top shouts. Chorizo with piquillo sauce, foie gras on toast with Pedro Ximénez reduction and a cheeky Spanish take on battered haddock with pil pil and vinegar sauce are ‘truly sublime’, likewise croquetas and other tapas classics including Galician octopus with confit potatoes. ‘A unique cosy place’ with terrific staff and a well-curated Spanish drinks list.
