The story

Bombay Bustle London – Michelin-Recommended Indian Restaurant in Mayfair

A Taste of Bombay in Mayfair

Bombay Bustle brings the spirit of Mumbai to Maddox Street. Co-founder Samyukta Nair describes it simply: “Bombay is more than a city, it’s a feeling. In its tiny lanes and bustling homes, food holds memory, flavour carries feeling, and every bite tells a story.” This philosophy drives a menu that blends comforting classics with seasonal dishes inspired by the kind of food Bombay-ites grow up with and crave.

The space nods to the city’s vintage elegance, while the kitchen reimagines much-loved dishes from across India. From family recipes passed down through generations to staples of Mumbai’s vibrant street food culture, the menu is a tribute to a city that lives and breathes through food. The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended award for its consistent, heartfelt cooking.

Seasonal and Signature Offerings

The menu changes with the seasons, but always roots itself in Indian home cooking. A recent Winter Specials menu featured dishes like Sprouts Sundal with mustard seeds, curry leaves and coconut; Dhokla Chaat layered with fresh mint and tamarind; and Chamber’s Tomato Soup, slow-cooked with garlic, black pepper and whole spices. Each plate is designed to warm and restore during the colder months.

For a more celebratory mood, the restaurant offers a range of dining experiences, from an A La Carte menu to group feasts. The bar programme is equally considered, with cocktails that nod to Bombay’s boldest flavours. The Rose Rum Old Fashioned, served warm with jaggery and cinnamon smoke, is a standout.

A Table for Every Occasion

Bombay Bustle is designed for relaxed lunches, weekend brunches, and celebratory dinners alike. Private dining is available, and the restaurant also offers takeaway for those who want to enjoy the flavours at home. Whether you are sharing a feast with friends or enjoying a quiet meal, the restaurant’s warm, unhurried atmosphere invites you to stay a while. As the team puts it, every corner of the restaurant is designed to transport you there.

The Good Food Guide — Good

Anyone who has seen the movie The Lunchbox will know about the ‘dabbawalas’ who bike thousands of tiffin tins to office workers across Mumbai and other Indian cities. This casual sibling of Jamavar brings some of that homespun subcontinental spice and flavour to central Mayfair, with plenty of (Bombay) bustle and noisy chatter to go with the smoky aromas. Against a slick Art Deco backdrop inspired by the city’s first-class railway carriages, the kitchen doles out dishes full of up-front punch and invigorating freshness, with touches of glamour and panache thrown in for good measure. Some of the best things are the small plates – pao buns stuffed with lamb keema, peppery spiced scrambled eggs with truffle oil and naan, crispy new potatoes with Tulsi chilli chutney. If something more substantial is required, look to the line-up of tandoor-fired dishes, biryanis and curries – from Goan-style stone bass tikka with chilli paste to Malabar lamb or a version of chicken Madras involving coconut milk and ‘southern spices’. Dhals, vegetables and sides will please all palates and persuasions, while dessert might bring masala chai panna cotta with strawberries and figs. On Sunday, the Bombay Bustle 'brunch bundle' is a local hit. To drink, east-west cocktails are quite the thing here, (try the signature G&T made with Nagpur orange bitter and gin distilled in a 100-year-old copper pot); otherwise glug a bottle of Indian beer or something from the global wine list.
