The story
Chef Jackson Boxer presents Henri, a French bistro in Covent Garden that offers a whimsical interpretation of celebrated Parisian classics. Interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon crafted the narrow dining room using wood panelling, marble-topped tables, and comfortable booth seating. The setting feels relaxed yet polished, inviting guests for daily meals or evening drinks on the sun-drenched terrace.
The kitchen balances defiance with simplicity, advancing familiar dishes through creative twists. A standout appetiser fills a traditional Bordeaux cannelé with seaweed and sour cream, finishing with a cap of sharp trout roe. Savoury plates pair risotto cooked in veal stock with skewered snails swimming in garlic and parsley butter. Fresh options include a shredded carrot salad dressed with tapenade and sesame seeds, while the charcoal grill serves Brixham cod alongside crab bisque and lime leaf. Desserts feature the Royal Opera torte soaked in PX libation or chocolate sabayon cake with yoghurt sorbet.
Drinks complement the menu with mesmerising cocktails named after legendary French chefs. The wine list moves beyond French blinkers to present a wide-ranging international selection, with glasses available from £7 and half-bottle carafes from £20. Daily snack packs offer decadent bites at accessible prices, including duck fat fries served with homemade mayo and N25 caviar. Seasonal Apéro Hours highlight regional pairings, currently exploring Champagne and Burgundy wines matched to small plates.
