The story

Inis Restaurant London | Modern British Dining on Fish Island Canal

A canal-side home on the towpath

INIS anchors the canal towpath at 13 Rookwood Way in Fish Island, delivering a warm dose of modern British dining rooted in community spirit. The restaurant draws its name from the Irish word for island, mirroring a space created out of genuine affection for Fish Island itself. The Good Food Guide recognised this local commitment with a Local Gem award for 2026, highlighting how INIS became the gathering point for a neighbourhood that previously lacked a central restaurant. Guests settle into what feels like a town planner's ideal piazza overlooking the water, surrounded by staff who greet familiar faces by name.

Seasonal plates and kitchen staples

The kitchen rotates its offerings weekly to honour produce and provenance across a menu that reflects a flexible style of modern British cooking embracing Irish staples and coastal catches. Mornings begin with full Irish breakfasts and porridge topped with poached quince, while midweek lunches serve the chicken fillet roll and potato scallops dressed with INIS chip shop curry sauce. Evening tables receive dishes like donegal oysters with shallot vinaigrette, grilled langoustines tossed in brown butter and rosemary, and yorkshire venison served with beetroot and blackberries. A bread basket arrives early, showcasing homemade INIS blaa and irish brown bread alongside salted almonds. Desserts centre on guinness cake with custard, reinforcing the distinct character of the kitchen.

Cocktails, wines, and Sunday roasts

The bar programme leans into local spirits, leading with the INIS martini built from boatyard irish vodka, dolin, and pink pickle brine. Guests also enjoy a cold brew irish coffee spiced with jameson select, alongside a wine list that spans Côtes de Gascogne blanc to sfuso nebbiolo. Weekend service expands the kitchen's scope, bringing generous sharing plates like a chicken, bacon, and cider braised leek pie. Sunday roasts present roast pork belly with yorkshire pudding, sirloin of beef, or a whole roast sirloin shared among the table. The venue remains accessible and welcoming, accommodating wheelchairs and dogs on the towpath terrace.

2026
The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

A whole new neighbourhood has sprung up on Fish Island in recent times, but until Inis (‘island’ in Irish) opened in 2024, it was a neighbourhood without a neighbourhood restaurant. This place fills the gap, opening early for locally roasted coffee, full Irish breakfasts and apple turnovers, progressing to salads, pork belly rolls and slices of Guinness cake for lunch. It steps up a gear at the weekend, when the bar gets busy mixing Inis Martinis and the kitchen doles out fried potato 'scallops' with curry sauce, roast chicken with morels, and red wine risotto – plus Sunday roasts. The setting – a town planner's idea of a piazza overlooking the canal – is surprisingly lovely, and friendly staff seem to know everybody.
