The story
Julie’s first opened its doors in 1969, the creation of acclaimed designer Julie Hodgess of BIBA fame. From the start, it drew a unique crowd – artists, thinkers, and royalty alike. Mick Jagger, Princess Diana, and Naomi Campbell were regulars. The restaurant’s bohemian spirit became inseparable from Notting Hill itself.
In 2024, under new owner Tara MacBain, the reimagined Julie’s reopened. The space now spans 160 covers across a ground-floor dining room and bar, a basement dining area, and an alfresco terrace. The atmosphere remains distinctly welcoming – the kind of place where a slow family lunch or a sparkling evening feels equally at home.
Owen Kenworthy, previously of Brawn and The Pelican, oversees the kitchen. His menu is a regularly changing all-day carte of modern French brasserie cooking – show-stopping seafood towers, ingredient-led dishes, and life-enhancing fare. The cocktail menu is designed in harmony with the food, and the wine list ranges from crowd-pleasing classics to lesser-known finds.
Julie’s has earned a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, a nod to the quality and consistency of its modern British brasserie cooking. The recognition sits naturally alongside the restaurant’s long legacy – a place that has always balanced neighbourhood warmth with a touch of glamour.
Whether you come for the Sunday roast, a Saturday brunch, or a Martini masterclass, Julie’s remains a West London favourite, here to stay.
