The story

Kolamba Soho: Authentic Sri Lankan Cuisine in Central London

Roots in Colombo

Kolamba Soho brings authentic Sri Lankan cuisine to a quiet corner of London. Husband and wife team Eroshan and Aushi Meewella built their kitchen around recipes shared by friends and family back home. Their approach treats every meal as an extension of community rather than a commercial exercise. This grounded philosophy earned them a Local Gem designation from The Good Food Guide for 2026.

Curries and Sambols

The menu centres on composite plates that pair bold spices with everyday staples typical of the Sri Lankan kitchen. Diners typically build their bowl around options like Ceylon chicken curry or Vaira’s jaggery beef. Each portion arrives alongside steamed rice, slow cooked dhal, fried okra, and a fresh coconut sambol. A spoonful of mango chutney cuts through the heat while keeping the plate balanced.

Terrace Tables and Evening Pours

The dining room stays intentionally intimate, leaving only enough room for a narrow terrace along Kingly Street. Those outdoor seats attract locals who enjoy watching street life pass by between courses. Guests often start the day with the restaurant’s two course set lunch before transitioning to evening drinks. The beverage list features local Lion lager alongside chilled European whites and house cocktails.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

Husband and wife team Eroshan and Aushi Meewella’s bijou Sri Lankan eatery is fun, and their generous, low-priced, two-course set lunch comes highly recommended. Squeeze into the tiny terrace fronting Kingly Street (great for people-watching) or bag one of the tables inside and tuck into that Sri Lankan lunch staple – a composite curry/rice bowl. We chose Ceylon chicken curry and 'Vaira’s jaggery beef', both served with dhal, okra, coconutty pol sambol and mango chutney on a bed of rice. Wash it all down with Sri Lanka’s favourite Lion lager, cocktails such as a chilli-laced Margarita, or something from the short European wine list.
