The story
La Fromagerie Bloomsbury brings Patricia Michelson’s decades of expertise to a dedicated European cuisine spot in London. Her journey began on a ski slope in Méribel, where a tasting of Beaufort Chalet d’Alpage prompted her to sell wheels from a garden shed and later a Camden Market stall. This Lamb’s Conduit Street location opened in 2017, extending a model built on rigorous sourcing and deep producer relationships.
Visitors enter a pared-back ground floor defined by a curved service counter and tightly arranged seating. A glass-fronted cheese room sits just behind the staff, displaying aged wheels while customers browse the retail selection below. Descending a short staircase reveals a more spacious dining hall that comfortably accommodates larger groups and private bookings throughout the week.
Head Chef Alessandro guides a kitchen that pairs artisan charcuterie with rotating seasonal European produce. Diners regularly encounter venison carpaccio dressed with pickled chanterelles alongside robust cod served with sauce bordelaise and Puy lentils. The team also hosts evening suppers around a long communal table, recently transporting guests toward Puglia with a seafood risotto finished tableside using mussels, clams, squid, and prawns washed in Amalfi lemon.
Service typically concludes with plum frangipane tart or an apricot semifreddo layered with crushed pistachio. The short European wine list complements these plates, while curated beer selections and classic aperitifs round out the drink menu. The Good Food Guide awarded the venue a 2026 Local Gem distinction, citing its reliable execution and the practical benefit of accepting reservations across all seven days.
