The story
La Trompette opened in 2001 and has been a fixture of the Chiswick dining scene ever since, celebrating 25 years in 2026. From the outset, it has drawn acclaim for its care, dedication, and energy. The restaurant serves some of the best food in London, yet deliberately avoids the formality and prices often associated with the capital’s top-end establishments.
The kitchen is led by chef Greg Wellman. Originally from Hampshire, Greg studied Hospitality Management before realising his passion lay in creating food. He has travelled extensively in Australasia and South America, an influence that shows in the diversity of his dishes. He honed his skills at prestigious kitchens including The Square, Chez Bruce, and Elystan Street, and previously ran the kitchen at sister restaurant The Glasshouse in Kew. A keen surfer, Greg is particularly passionate about seafood, though his carefully thought-out menus cover much more.
The restaurant underwent a complete refurbishment in 2013, expanding to include a brand-new kitchen, a private dining room, and improved facilities. The new appearance did not change the focus: the aim remains to give every guest the best possible dining experience from start to finish. La Trompette is under the same ownership as Chez Bruce.
The wine programme is a point of pride. The directors are fanatical wine lovers who have invested greatly in the cellar over many years, offering vintages often unseen in today’s marketplace. A dedicated wine team helps find the perfect match for any meal and budget.
La Trompette holds a Michelin star, a recognition of the high quality of its cooking. It is a place where refined French and Modern British cuisine meets genuine warmth, making it a destination for both special occasions and unhurried neighbourhood dinners.
