The story
Le Vacherin has established itself as a destination for classic French cuisine in West London. Tucked away on South Parade in Chiswick, the restaurant combines the romance of a Parisian brasserie with the warmth of a neighbourhood favourite. The dining room feels both elegant and familiar – a setting where quiet excellence, as one press review put it, “whispers” rather than shouts. This understated approach has earned Le Vacherin a place on the Michelin Recommended list, a mark of consistent quality that the restaurant wears lightly.
Since September 2018, the kitchen has been led by executive chef Marc Wainwright, a Chiswick native who has been part of the team for over a decade. Wainwright’s passion for French tradition is balanced by a curiosity for Asian, Japanese, Italian and Nordic ingredients – a subtle influence that keeps the menu evolving without losing its roots. Under his guidance, the restaurant won its second AA rosette. He is supported by head chef Jean-Luc Moreau, whose twenty years of experience in French fine dining bring precision and respect for technique to every plate.
The menu is built around simple, seasonal cooking rooted in French tradition. The à la carte offers handcrafted dishes that celebrate fresh ingredients, while the Prix Fixe menu provides a curated journey through French classics. A Sunday Roast with a French twist has become a local ritual, featuring succulent meats and seasonal accompaniments. The kitchen also accommodates vegan and vegetarian diners with advance notice, and pastry chef Claire Dubois – originally from Lyon – creates elegant desserts including a signature vacherin and tarte tatin.
Hospitality is central to the restaurant’s identity. The team, led by general manager Marco Cristaldi, aims to make every guest feel welcomed. A carefully curated wine list, overseen by sommelier Thomas Bennett, brings together classic French vintages alongside new discoveries. Regular promotions add to the appeal: Wednesday evenings are BYOB with no corkage fee, the Monday Château Club offers fine wines at exclusive prices, and a Steak & Frites deal with a glass of house wine is available daily until 7pm. Whether for a weekday lunch or a celebratory dinner, Le Vacherin delivers a taste of Paris without leaving West London.
