The story
Tucked into a quiet corner of Knightsbridge, Nanyang Blossom brings the vivid, layered flavours of Southeast Asia to London. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026 — a nod to the precision and personality behind every plate.
At its heart is Chef Patron Daren Liew, who grew up in Penang, Malaysia, and built his career in Singapore’s fine-dining kitchens before bringing his vision to Europe. His cooking marries the depth of Chinese technique, the fire of Malay spices, and the structure of Singaporean street-food traditions — all lifted by European refinement.
The kitchen is most proud of its Exquisite Lobster Curry, a dish built on a Nyonya-inspired sauce. Fresh Canadian lobster sits in a rich, gently spiced curry made with turmeric, lemongrass, galangal, belacan, and coconut milk. It arrives with sweet potato purée, tiger chilli brioche, and a crispy grana padano milk biscuit — a study in contrast and balance.
The Yin Yang Nutmeg Prawns are another signature. Crusted king prawns are flash-fried, then glazed with orange liqueur and finished with lime leaf and nutmeg. Sweet, salty, citrusy, and crisp — a starter that surprises every time.
For something slow and soulful, the Beef Rib Rendang is braised for sixteen hours with turmeric leaf and coconut milk until impossibly tender. The menu also features Wagyu Lettuce Wraps, Deluxe Hokkien Stir-Fry, and Nyonya Grouper Fish.
The cocktail list includes the Smoky Assam, a tribute to Malaysian iced tea made with whisky, assam tea reduction, burnt orange, and palm sugar, served with a smoke cap. The dining room is polished yet welcoming, with private spaces for larger gatherings.
Nanyang Blossom brings the heritage of Nanyang — the “South Seas” — to London with honesty, skill, and a clear sense of place.
