The story

Norbert's East Dulwich: Rotisserie Chicken & Local Gem in London

The kitchen and flame-grilled method

Norbert's in East Dulwich centers its menu on rotisserie chicken cooked over open flames by co-founders John Ogier and Jack Coghlan. The pair established the venue, which earned a Local Gem distinction from the Good Food Guide, after leaving roles at Lyle's, Lasdun, and Planque. They operate a rotisserie wall that handles whole birds to ensure consistent heat distribution across every serving.

Signature plates and bold sauces

The menu features tender rotisserie chicken served with Frank's RedHot, aïoli, or honey mustard alongside pepper butter and house-made chicken gravy. Sides include boiled new potatoes basted in rendered chicken fat and lentils dressed in a sharp vinaigrette. Lunch orders offer 'The Dylan', a crispy onion sandwich layered with grilled meat and guindilla chillies, while starters present chicken liver pâté and taramasalata with crisps.

Intimate space and French libations

With only sixteen seats available, the restaurant operates on a first-come basis rather than accepting reservations. The compact layout fosters a busy, social environment where diners observe the roasting process. Desserts conclude the meal with rice pudding or a selection of cheeses paired with honey and biscuits. An all-French wine list begins at thirty-five pounds, while cocktails such as the piña colada provide a sweet finish.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

'Quick, delicious and good fun' is the verdict for this no-bookings, no-frills rotisserie chicken restaurant off East Dulwich's main drag. Co-founders John Ogier (Lyle's, Lasdun) and Jack Coghlan (Planque) have swapped refined dining for flames in a tightly packed 16-seater space, and the formula is simple: high-quality chicken, deftly handled on a rotisserie wall, with sides including boiled new potatoes basted in chicken fat, French fries and dressed leaves with a lentil viniagrette, as well as black pepper butter and chicken gravy for saucing. For afters, there might be a chocolate parfait or cheese. The short and sweet, all-French wine list opens at £35, while cocktails, particularly their piña colada, play a starring role.
