The story
Norma is a contemporary and vibrant Italian restaurant on Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, inspired by the food and culture of Sicily. The cooking here draws on the island’s Moorish influences, bringing together refined techniques with the warmth and generosity of traditional Italian dining. Set across three floors of a characterful townhouse, the restaurant feels like a natural extension of Sicily’s grand café culture. The ground and first floors are dedicated to the dining room, while the top floor offers a private dining space.
Norma’s kitchen has earned a Michelin Recommended nod for 2026, a fitting recognition for a restaurant that balances polished cooking with genuine hospitality. It’s also been awarded two AA Rosettes, reflecting the consistency and care that go into every plate.
The menu celebrates the freshness of Southern Italy and the bold flavours of Sicily. Start with small plates like truffle arancini with stracciatella and porcini mayo, or seared tuna with harissa honey and mint salsa. Pasta is a highlight: the signature Rigatoni Alla Norma brings together tomato sauce, aubergine and ricotta salata, while black tagliolini with Devon crab and spicy burro bianco is a favourite. For mains, the slow-cooked beef blade with purple potato puree and salsa verde, or the glazed black cod with marsala and chestnuts, show the kitchen’s skill with both simplicity and depth.
A Sicilian Set Menu is available every evening at £45, and a pre-theatre menu offers two courses for £25 from Monday to Friday. Weekend brunch is a three-course affair with sharing small plates, followed by a choice of mains and a shared dessert.
Sicilian wine is integral to the experience. The restaurant’s list is carefully curated to match the menu’s bold flavours. Grillo’s bright acidity pairs with seafood antipasti, while Nero d’Avola’s dark fruit and earthy notes complement pasta dishes like the Norma. Marsala, in both dry and sweet versions, is offered as a pairing for desserts such as cannoli or almond cake. The team’s knowledge of the region’s volcanic soils and indigenous grapes makes the wine pairing an education in itself. Whether you’re exploring the list for the first time or you’re a seasoned enthusiast, the pairings elevate the meal without pretension.
