The story
Ochre is a vibrant all-day dining brasserie and cocktail bar set within The National Gallery on London’s Trafalgar Square. The space balances a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere with a stylish lounge, making it a natural spot for everything from a quick brunch to a pre-theatre dinner or a leisurely afternoon tea.
The restaurant is a project by Noble & Miller, with a team that brings serious depth. Head Chef Alex Piludu, originally from Italy, first discovered his love for ingredients while working in a butcher’s shop. After studying engineering and moving to England in 1997, he worked his way through catering college and now brings that same eye for detail to Ochre’s kitchen. General Manager Charles Hodge, who found his passion for hospitality abroad, leads a front-of-house team that blends warmth with precision. Bar Manager Jesse Lamb, a trained actor with a deep knowledge of cocktails, adds a touch of flair to the drinks list.
The menu changes with the season, focusing on the freshest British ingredients and working with local suppliers to keep things sustainable. Offerings include a Set Menu (available for pre-theatre at £28), a renowned Afternoon Tea served daily from 3.30pm, a Sunday Roast from October, and Friday Lates. The cooking is described as modern British with international influences—one press review noted, “Flavours are vivid and international influences abound.”
This modern cuisine has earned Ochre a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, a recognition that feels earned. Another review called it “the best new restaurant in London.” Guests often praise the food and the service: one described the martinis as “knock your head off” and the staff as “lovely and attentive.”
Ochre’s private dining room can be booked for any occasion, and the whole restaurant is available for larger events. It’s a place that manages to feel both grand and welcoming, right in the heart of the city.
