The story
Padella is the realisation of Tim and Jordan’s long-held ambition: a pasta bar that serves fresh, hand-rolled pasta with sauces and fillings inspired by their travels through Italy. The result is a relaxed, counter-dining spot in the heart of Borough Market, where the focus is squarely on the pasta.
The menu changes regularly but always centres on well-made Italian pasta. You might find pappardelle with eight-hour Hereford beef shin ragu – a rich, slow-cooked sauce that clings to the wide ribbons – or the classic pici cacio e pepe, a Roman staple of pecorino and black pepper. The fettuccine with datterini tomatoes and basil is a lighter, summer option, while the tagliarini with Dorset crab, chilli and lemon brings a coastal twist. Each dish is made to order, with the option to add extra aged parmesan.
The space is open and lively, with seating at the counter and a few outdoor tables for warmer days. The restaurant is BYOB-friendly, and the drinks list includes a Negroni blend created with Mr Lyan Studio, as well as a concise wine selection from Italy and France. For those with a sweet tooth, the tiramisu and cherry and almond tart round off the meal.
Padella’s quality and value have been recognised with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, awarded for good quality, good value cooking. It’s a fitting accolade for a place that does one thing – fresh Italian pasta – and does it exceptionally well.
