The story
Rogues is the work of chefs Freddie Sheen and Zac Whittle, who met at Galvin La Chapelle and discovered a shared desire to create something different. They launched as a pop-up in December 2019, then adapted through the pandemic—first as an online supermarket, then a gourmet sandwich shop, a meal delivery service, and a terrace BBQ. In March 2022 they settled into their permanent home on Hackney Road, where they have struck a chord with local diners.
The menu here changes daily, built around what the chefs find at the market each week. The cooking is Modern British in spirit—seasonal, ingredient-led, and served as sharing-style plates. Guests can choose between a five-course set menu, a lighter option, or a la carte. Saturday lunch offers a shorter, more casual menu. The kitchen accommodates a wide range of dietary requirements, including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan, with alternative set menus available every day.
The drinks list matches the food’s energy: an ever-changing selection of natural wines and thoughtful cocktails. The team is small and tight-knit, described by regulars as passionate, knowledgeable, and humble.
Earning a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, Rogues has quickly become a fixture on Hackney Road. Diners praise the “no BS amazing food,” the confident service, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and relaxed. It is a place where two chefs’ relentless adaptability and love for their craft have built something genuinely worth seeking out.
