Sorella – Italian for “sister” – is the Clapham outpost of a small London restaurant family founded by Robin and Sarah Gill and Daniel Joines. Sister to Darby’s, Bermondsey Larder and others, it was conceived as a true neighbourhood Italian, and it wears that identity with quiet confidence.

The team’s philosophy comes directly from Robin Gill’s years spent working on the Amalfi coast, learning a seasonal, ingredient-led approach. That spirit shapes every part of Sorella: the menu, designed by Head Chef Ross Mangan, follows a traditional Italian format of cicchetti, antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci, but the produce dictates the details. Fresh pasta and focaccia are made in-house daily, and the kitchen works closely with a network of small producers and growers.

What You’ll Eat and Drink

The cooking is direct and generous. A Christmas menu (available for larger parties) offers a taste of the style: brown crab and black pepper arancini as cicchetti, cappelletti in brodo for primi, and beef cheek braised in Barolo with 30-month Parmesan polenta and radicchio. Even the bread – Sorella’s own sourdough focaccia – gets its own moment, served with house-made ricotta and seasonal pesto.

The bar leans into the Italian tradition of aperitivo, with seasonal bellinis, americanos and Vault Vermouth negronis on tap. It’s a place where a drink before dinner feels as considered as the meal itself.

Recognition and Atmosphere

Sorella’s consistent quality has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and the guide continues to recommend it in 2026. But the restaurant wears its accolades lightly. The room is warm, unfussy, and built for people who want to eat well without ceremony. Family is central to everything they do – and at Sorella, you’re treated like part of it.
