The story
Speedboat Bar brings bold Thai cooking to London’s Soho district after opening on Rupert Street in 2022. Chef Luke Farrell designed the kitchen around high-heat wok techniques that define the Thai kitchen. Fire and acid drive the menu rather than heavy sauces, allowing ingredients like lime and fresh herbs to lead.
A plate of minced beef arrives with holy basil, steamed rice, and a perfectly frilly fried egg. Purple aubergine paired with chilli and crisp sweetcorn fritters balances intense heat against natural sweetness. Tom yum offers generous prawns and thick pork belly slices in a sharp broth.
Metal tabletops and laminated menus set a practical canteen tone inside the bustling Soho space. Bright colours and vintage Thai football shirts line the walls while a pool table hosts late-night games upstairs near the main bar. The venue earned a place in the 2026 Good Food Guide for proving that straightforward Thai classics can thrive in central London.
