The story
One of London’s most loved sushi and Japanese restaurants, SUMI is the younger sibling of Endo Kazutoshi’s Michelin-starred Endo at the Rotunda. Named after Endo’s mother, the restaurant brings the sushi master’s vision to a relaxed neighbourhood setting on Westbourne Grove. It is elegant and refined, yet warm and casual—a place where precision meets comfort. Executive Chef Christian Onia leads the kitchen, translating Endo’s signature style into a menu that honours Japanese traditions while drawing on the many influences that have shaped Endo’s journey.
The food at SUMI is described as an authentic taste of Japan, elevated and innovative. The thoughtfully pared-back menu focuses on quality and balance: handmade sushi and sashimi made with the finest seasonal ingredients, alongside robata grills and traditional Japanese Gohans. Drinks follow the same philosophy—a curated selection of sake, Japanese whisky, and cocktails that blend classic craftsmanship with a modern twist. For lighter afternoons, the Terrace menu (Thursday to Sunday, 3–5pm) offers favourites like temakis and nibbles, served outdoors.
SUMI is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with an inviting atmosphere that feels both refined and accessible. It has earned a Michelin Recommendation, a testament to the consistent quality and care that defines this Japanese restaurant. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch or an evening of carefully crafted sushi, SUMI delivers a distinctly London take on Japanese dining.
