The story
Just off the rosewood-clad corridor at the heart of The Connaught hotel in Mayfair, The Connaught Grill is a space that feels both timeless and freshly imagined. Reimagined by interior designer John Heah, the room balances storied heritage with contemporary craft. Bespoke woodwork by Mira Nakashima and a menu that honours true craftsmanship set the tone.
The open kitchen is the focal point. Here, the finest British produce is transformed over a wood-burning grill. Seasonal ingredients dictate the menu—a Scottish scallop might appear before an organic Barnsley lamb chop. By evening, the kitchen turns to Aberdeen Angus sharing steaks and a pastry-wrapped sea bass. The cooking is precise, the fire evident.
Sunday lunch is a ritual in itself. The Connaught Grill serves Mayfair’s finest Sunday roast, with Hereford beef or organic chicken carved tableside from a silver trolley. Fresh seafood and a wild seabass en croûte round out the offering.
This is a restaurant that earns its Michelin recommendation through quiet confidence. The Grill is not about flash—it is about substance, seasonality, and the skill of cooking with fire. In a city of excellent steakhouses, it stands apart for its elegance and restraint.
