The story
The Kerfield Arms occupies a historic corner site in Camberwell, London, where chef Jay Styler applies classical technique to modern pub cooking. Adam Symonds and Rob Tecwyn launched the venue in 2025 after establishing their Islington gastropub, carrying over a philosophy built on straightforward preparation and careful flavour balance. That same approach recently earned the team a spot on the National Restaurant Awards list. Guests can expect a neighbourhood space that feels equally comfortable for a quick drink or a properly plated evening meal.
The pub kitchen rotates its menu with the seasons while keeping preparations deliberately unadorned. Cuttlefish arrives dressed with lardo shish and pul biber chilli, while fried pig’s head is paired with smoked eel and a warm tartare sauce. A recent highlight featured Yorkshire hogget served alongside violet artichokes, bagna cauda, and toasted pine nuts. Even the sweet finish leans into precise execution, like the gariguette strawberry custard doughnut scented with chamomile.
Visitors enter through a broad central bar designed for casual drinkers and spontaneous arrivals. A staircase leads to a dedicated dining room where reserved tables sit above the main floor activity. Larger parties move easily into the upstairs private space, which holds twenty-four guests for weekend gatherings or seasonal feasting menus. The layout keeps the energy relaxed without ever compromising on the standard of pub dining.
