The story

Towpath London: A Canal-Side Retreat for Seasonal International Cuisine

Towpath in London brings a grounded approach to international cuisine along the south-facing banks of the Regent’s Canal. Founded by Laura and Lori, this seasonal spot operates without reservations from March through November, asking visitors simply to arrive and wait their turn.

The kitchen and its rhythms

Laura and Lori guide the kitchen with a focus on accessible international cuisine that prioritises honest, unfussy preparation. Morning visitors often order fried eggs paired with caramelised sage and chilli butter, while midday tables fill up with grilled cheese sandwiches served alongside quince jelly. Evening menus shift toward nourishing plates like green bean fritti with romesco or roast chicken accompanied by braised white beans. Their dedication to straightforward preparation earned them a Local Gem designation in the 2026 Good Food Guide.

The canal side terrace

Between spring and autumn the shutters roll back to reveal a sunlit stretch of outdoor benches and tables. Staff arrange simple jam jars holding wildflower posies across the wooden surfaces, creating a relaxed environment that encourages lingering. The space has cultivated a loyal following who describe it as a neighbourhood refuge rather than a destination to rush through. Homemade cocktails and a reliable coffee selection round out the daytime and evening service.

A rooted community project

The venue extends beyond its daily service into a broader collection of stories and recipes published in a dedicated cookbook. Guests frequently pick up copies to recreate dishes at home or stream the published podcast episodes to hear behind the counter anecdotes. This approach to seasonal international cooking has drawn praise from established writers and artists who value the consistent warmth of the team. The resulting atmosphere feels less like a commercial enterprise and more like a shared table among friends.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

Between March and November, the shutters roll up on this south-facing stretch of the Regent’s Canal and out comes an assembly of benches and tables set with jam jars of pretty wildflower posies. Early birds might plump for sliced fried eggs with caramelised sage and chilli butter, while lunch brings good grilled cheese sandwiches with quince jelly. Dinner (Thursday-Saturday in peak summer) is the time for nourishing seasonal plates, from green bean fritti with romesco to roast chicken with braised white beans. Wines and  homemade cocktails match the setting and the coffee is ‘Sydney good,’ notes one fan from those parts. Towpath is insanely popular and they don't accept bookings, so take potluck – and dress for the weather. We guarantee you’ll be charmed.
