The story
Just over seven years since it opened, Upstairs at Trinity has carved out a reputation for relaxed, ingredient-led cooking in Clapham. The self-contained dining room centres on an open island kitchen, where the team prepares a daily-changing menu of small plates designed for sharing. The idea is to bring guests closer to the process — and it works.
The cooking is modern, clean and focused on produce. A sample menu might begin with Trinity Reform Bread or Comte croquettes, then move to Burrata with garlic leaf pesto, or Yellowfin tuna crudo with datterini and salted almonds. Mains like whole BBQ seabass with crab bisque or Cumbrian lamb rump with cashew cream show ambition without pretension. Desserts include a classic tiramisu and salted caramel custard tart.
The team’s unfaltering passion recently earned them a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition of good quality, good value cooking – a natural fit for a place that balances finesse with approachability.
Sundays are given over to a set lunch: three courses from £40, served family-style from 1.30pm. The menu changes weekly and is announced the preceding Tuesday.
Upstairs also hosts wine masterclasses, guest chef dinners, and private events. The space can be hired for sit-down meals of up to 32 guests, or 50 standing. The team builds bespoke food and drink packages to suit each occasion.
There is no fuss here. The room is modern, the wine list interesting, and the service warm. Whether you come for a midweek dinner or a long Sunday lunch, Upstairs delivers casual dining at its most refined.
