The story
Zaika, a sister restaurant to Tamarind Mayfair, brings the authentic feasting traditions of India’s Maharajas Palaces to Kensington. The restaurant offers a contemporary take on refined royal tastes, in food, service, and spirit. Its approach has earned it a Michelin Recommended award, reflecting the kitchen’s skill with century-old recipes reimagined for today.
The restaurant is housed in a Grade II listed building at 1 Kensington High Street, opposite Hyde Park. Designed in 1884 by Alfred Williams for the London City Bank, the structure has been carefully restored to preserve its gothic revival details and banking heritage. The interiors, by Sara Fenn, create an atmosphere that balances historic grandeur with modern comfort.
Zaika’s menu draws on the diverse culinary traditions of India’s historic palaces and gourmet homes. Century-old recipes are presented in an inventive, contemporary style, offering both familiar classics and unexpected combinations. A lunch menu is available Tuesday through Sunday, and a tasting menu provides a curated journey for first-time visitors and regulars alike. The wine list has been carefully selected to complement the complex flavours of the Indian cuisine.
The cocktail programme takes inspiration from Indian and English gardens, using fresh ingredients and floral aromas. Signature drinks such as the Darjeeling Cream Soda and Jaipur Bloom are crafted to pair with dishes from the kitchen. For private occasions, the restaurant offers a dedicated Private Dining Room for up to 32 guests, with AV equipment, floral arrangements, and personalised menus available on request.
