The story

The Terrace - Michelin Recommended Harbour-Side Dining in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight

A Harbour-Side Restaurant with Quiet Ambition

The Terrace sits above Yarmouth Harbour on the Isle of Wight, with views over the water and a direct ferry link from Lymington. It opened in 2020 and has quickly become the island’s most recognised restaurant – the only one in the Isle of Wight to hold a Michelin Recommendation (2026), alongside accolades from The AA, The Good Food Guide, Square Meal and Hardens. The owners describe it as “relaxed and affordable, but driven by care and quality.” That sums up the ethos: no fuss, but serious attention to detail.

Classic Cuisine, Seasonal Menus

The kitchen works within a classic cuisine framework, producing dishes that change with the seasons. Menus are offered for lunch and dinner, with a Sunday lunch service and a simpler coffee-and-pastries option in the mornings. The approach is modern and precise without being showy – think light, five-course takes on traditional dining, as seen in their themed events such as “A Very English Christmas” and “Wines of Burgundy.” A sample à la carte menu and a Sunday menu are available on the restaurant’s site, though the precise dishes rotate regularly.

A Wine List Worth Travelling For

Co-owner Tom Fahey oversees the wine programme, and his expertise has not gone unnoticed. He was named one of Harper’s Top 20 UK Sommeliers, and the list reflects a deep knowledge of regions close to the team’s heart – Burgundy features prominently, and there are regular wine-pairing dinners and tastings. Alistair, the resident wine connoisseur, and Phil Keen, who personally pours on event nights, add a hospitable, hands-on feel. Every bottle is chosen to match the kitchen’s clear, flavour-driven cooking.

The Terrace Today

With its harbour-side location, open terrace, and a schedule that shifts from May through October (with reduced hours in the off-season), The Terrace is a destination for both locals and visitors arriving from the mainland. It offers breakfast pastries, lunch, and dinner, plus takeaway and private dining through its Terrace Rooms. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service personal, and the cooking quietly accomplished – exactly what a Michelin Recommended restaurant should be.

Quality dining options in the western reaches of the Isle of Wight can be few and far between, but visitors have been quick to recommended this harbourside restaurant with a sun-trap terrace offering great views over the Solent. It's also open all year round – a bonus when so many local venues are high-season only. The regularly changing menu is strong on seafood, offering anything from pickled Cornish mackerel with an apple dashi and artichoke purée to monkfish with tikka-roasted cauliflower, saag aloo, coconut and tomato sauce. There's a carefully selected, well-annotated and keenly priced wine list too – although the most effusive praise is reserved for the cheerful, welcoming and enthusiastic staff.
