Views and regional sourcing

Dining at 20 Stories in Manchester offers sweeping views across the city to the Pennines. The kitchen builds its modern British menu around North Country produce, applying solid technique to regional ingredients. The Good Food Guide recognizes the venue for these panoramic sightlines and its glamorous golden light. This geographical focus shapes every plate, turning familiar items into reliable classics.

Kitchen highlights

Braised lamb shoulder arrives alongside grilled heritage squash and BBQ sprouts. Pan-roasted cod pairs with cauliflower, fennel, and a rich red wine reduction. Those preferring beef can order a textbook flat iron steak served with skinny fries. Seared salmon rests on courgettes, orzo, and basil, completing a menu defined by careful modern British cooking.

Sweets and cellar

Dessert selections lean toward fruit-forward compositions like caramelised pear cheesecake or peach frangipane paired with apricot sorbet. The signature wonderland dessert offers a playful finish to the evening. Behind the bar, staff manage a substantial wine list housed in five Eurocave fridges. Six hundred bins provide extensive pairing options for the meal.

The Good Food Guide — Good

With ‘incredible’ panoramic views stretching over the city to the Pennines beyond, 20 Stories can be an eye-popping experience. Literally towering above its nearest rival when it comes to sheer glitz (ahoy down there, The Ivy Spinningfields!), it's got all the glamorous rooftop cocktails and golden light a socialite could wish for – with the bonus of bottomless brunches, afternoon teas and well-crafted ‘festive family roasts’ on Sundays. The kitchen also has the chops when it comes to an à la carte menu loaded with good North Country produce and well-grounded technique – as in braised lamb shoulder with grilled heritage squash, BBQ sprouts and chestnuts or pan-roasted cod with cauliflower, fennel, orange and red wine sauce. You're paying for the food and the view, so competitively priced set lunches and pre-theatre deals are worth considering for 'well-made classics' such as seared salmon with courgettes, orzo and basil or a textbook flat iron steak with skinny fries. Desserts are a highlight, from caramelised pear cheesecake or peach frangipane slice with apricot sorbet to the signature ‘20 Stories wonderland’. Exhibitionists will love the wine list, drawn from a collection of 600 bins stored in five Eurocave fridges – although a ‘broader range at the lower end’ would be appreciated.
