The story
On Spittal Street in Marlow, The Butcher’s Tap and Grill does exactly what it says on the sign. It is a traditional butcher’s, a welcoming pub, and a grill room all in one. The concept is simple: you choose a cut of 100% British meat from the butcher’s counter, and the butcher-chefs cut and grill it to order. Whether that is a Hereford 28-day dry-aged rib eye, a chateaubriand for two, or a classic beef burger, the cooking happens right in front of you.
The atmosphere is relaxed and neighbourhood-friendly. Well-behaved dogs and children are always welcome, and there is an inviting alfresco area for garden cooking when the weather allows. The grill menu runs from steaks and burgers to hot dogs and a Korean BBQ beef onglet kebab, all built around quality British meat. Tom’s Table features the chef’s own comfort-food favourites: ham, egg and chips with treacle and Guinness marinated pork rib eye, or a pork chop with bubble and squeak and date brown sauce. The Sunday roast, served in a giant Yorkshire pudding, sells out quickly.
Michelin recognised the pub with a Recommended award in 2026, noting the straightforward, skilful cooking that lets the ingredients speak. It is the kind of place where you can pop in for a pint and a snack, or settle in for a full grill dinner without any fuss.
