The story
Fab Bakery in Newcastle upon Tyne operates as a dedicated bakery serving handmade sourdough and French patisserie under the direction of founder Shynara Bakisheva. Her Kazakh upbringing taught her that bread represents genuine hospitality, a standard she refused to compromise when relocating to the North East. After completing a ten month diploma at the School of Artisan Food and gaining experience at Fenwick and Vallum Farm, she launched her own operation in 2017. That early training still dictates her precise fermentation methods today.
The daily selection highlights handcrafted sourdough wheels alongside dense rye bread and traditional ciabatta. Visitors frequently line up for viennoiserie items, especially the almond filled pain au chocolat and layered croissants. Friday and Saturday shifts introduce rotating sweet and savoury batches, including vegan pastries and freshly rolled sausage suits for midday meals. A celebrated fougasse remains a regular favourite for its crackling crust and evenly aerated interior.
The current location sits inside a converted butchery unit on Fenham Hall Drive that Shynara secured during the spring of 2020. Gentle cinnamon aromas travel down the pavement while staff members who previously worked in architecture and healthcare shape dough behind the counter. That consistent quality at the Fenham bakery recently secured a Readers Recommend honour from The Good Food Guide. Neighbours keep returning for reliable baking and straightforward service.
