The story
The Tartan Fox opened in 2024 as a British pub and restaurant on a farmstead in the Cornish countryside, between Truro and Newquay. It is part of the Adam Handling Collection, and its name nods to chef Adam Handling’s Scottish roots and the woodland setting—a fox’s den, a place to retreat.
The kitchen focuses on sustainable, contemporary British pub food. The pub’s own gardens supply vegetables, herbs, and flowers; St. Ewe chickens roam the grounds, providing free-range eggs. The menu changes regularly, working with local producers and giving classic dishes a fresh twist with Scottish accents. Vegan and vegetarian options are always available, and Sunday lunch is a highlight, served in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere where dogs are welcome.
The Tartan Fox occupies a farmstead with expansive gardens and a wild flower meadow. For private dining, there are semi-private areas and an intimate barn; larger events can use the garden tipi or hire the whole venue. Once a month, a fireside feast brings chefs cooking over open flames with live music—a communal, celebratory evening.
Adam Handling MBE, Scottish-born and trained at Gleneagles, brings his zero-waste ethos and passion for British produce to every dish. The Tartan Fox’s refined yet approachable style earned it a Michelin Recommendation for 2026, a mark of its quality and commitment to seasonality.
