The story
Ibérico World Tapas sits in the heart of Nottingham’s Lace Market, inside one of the city’s oldest grade II listed buildings – The County Gaol, now part of the Justice Museum. The restaurant’s intimate multi-level layout, vaulted ceilings, and Moorish details create a space that feels both historic and welcoming. Guests can dine at the bar or at lower tables, enjoying a relaxed yet devoted dining experience.
The menu is built on the rustic simplicity of tapas, but with refined ingredients and world cooking influences. The restaurant describes itself as Spanish-inspired dishes of rustic simplicity combined with refined ingredients of world cooking. This Mediterranean approach to tapas means sharing plates that are both familiar and unexpected. An express dining offer at £20 provides a quick way to sample the kitchen’s work, and the wine and classic Sherry list is carefully selected to complement the food.
Since 2013, Ibérico World Tapas has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a mark of good quality, good value cooking. It is one of very few Nottingham restaurants with this accolade. Over the years, it has also won numerous regional and national awards, including from the Nottinghamshire Bar & Restaurant Awards and SquareMeal’s UK Top 100.
The restaurant has been a fixture of the Nottingham scene for over 18 years. It is the big sister to Bar Iberico and sister to Taquero, part of a small family of independent eateries. The restaurant’s website calls itself “Nottingham’s best kept secret” and “the original Nottingham tapas restaurant.” That longevity and local pride are evident in the care taken with both food and setting.
