The story
Under a busy flyover on Lenton Lane, Restaurant Sat Bains delivers Michelin-starred British cooking in Nottingham. This venue rejects the prestige of a fancy postcode, banking instead on food that demands attention regardless of surroundings. Sat and Amanda Bains took over the site in 2005, transforming what was once Hotel des Clos into a destination for distinctive British dining, where exceptional produce-led meals meet thoughtful hospitality.
Sat won the Roux Scholarship in 1999 and became Chef Director in 2001, while Head Chef John has managed daily operations since 2002. His dedication supports the rigorous demands of British cuisine, maintaining the consistency expected of this level of fine dining. The kitchen constantly tweaks ideas, so dishes evolve week to week. In early 2022, the Bains reduced the main dining room capacity to twenty-eight covers and cut staff working hours to heighten the experience.
The restaurant features seven individually designed rooms situated around the main space and garden, allowing evenings to unfold at an unhurried pace. Guests can choose between the twenty-eight-cover main dining room, a four-seat Kitchen Bench within the pastry section, or a Tasting Room overlooking the savoury kitchen. A dedicated cigar hut offers a place to finish the meal with a digestif. Prices range from £149 for the Interlude menu up to £259 for the fuller Overture tasting.
