The story
The venue opened its doors in March 2013 with a mission to serve quality, freshly made seasonal food in a welcoming environment. Rob discovered the space during a cycle ride in October 2020 and recognized its buzz immediately. After moving from London with their two young boys, he and Maggie seized the ownership opportunity in 2022. Their team embodies the community spirit at the heart of the operation, maintaining the original ethos while keeping the menu fresh and creative.
Rob and Maggie acquired The Milk Shed in Oxford in 2022, turning the Weston on the Green spot into a Local Gem celebrated for its approachable international cooking. Located less than five minutes from Junction 9 of the M40, this mini food emporium delivers everything from gooey scrambled eggs to seasonal dahl dishes. The menu highlights three free-range Beechwood Farm soft scrambled eggs served on sourdough toast, ranging from £11 for the plain version to £15.50 with smoked salmon and chives. Vegetarians often gravitate toward the toasted Milwaukee rye loaded with mashed avocado, halloumi, roasted tomatoes, and herb salad, priced at £16. For warming options, the coconut and red lentil dahl arrives with chickpeas, cucumber, and coconut raita alongside pickled shallots. The Shed Club combines charred chicken breast with slow roast tomatoes and emmental, while daily blackboard specials keep the selection dynamic.
The international influences extend to the vegetarian choices, such as the coconut and red lentil dahl, which brings spice and texture to the lunch lineup. Described as a mini food emporium, the venue operates as a daytime café featuring irresistible ice creams and a robust coffee program including cappuccinos and flat whites. Visitors frequently select yoghurt bowls layered with mango, lime, and pineapple compote, or finish with triple chocolate brownies and flapjacks. The cool, informal setting appeals to families with children, especially given the dedicated kids' pasta and pancake options. Regular pop-ups and private party bookings add variety, reinforcing the Milk Shed's standing as a fun place to know in the Oxford area.
