The story

Café Spice Namasté, Plumstead: Michelin-Recommended Indian Dining by Cyrus Todiwala

Café Spice Namasté: A New Chapter on the Dock

Perched at the edge of Royal Albert Wharf in London’s historic Docklands, Café Spice Namasté has opened an exciting new chapter. After a celebrated quarter-century in the City of London, Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala have re-emerged with a vibrant neighbourhood restaurant, bringing their acclaimed Indian cuisine to a waterside setting.

The move to a simple, stylish space by the water hasn’t changed what made the original a destination. The restaurant remains a family-owned enterprise, and its commitment to sustainability, training, and exceptional cooking is stronger than ever. This dedication has been recognised with a place in the Michelin Guide, where it is listed as a Recommended restaurant for 2026.

Chef Cyrus Todiwala and the Menu

The menu, designed by Cyrus Todiwala OBE DL, is described as contemporary and street food-inspired. It focuses on an array of small platters meant for sharing, allowing diners to explore a host of tastes and textures. This approach to Indian cuisine highlights the diversity of the subcontinent’s culinary traditions.

Standout dishes include the Beetroot & Coconut Samosa Chaat, a signature samosa topped with chutneys and chickpea vermicelli. The Goan Pork Vindaloo here is a traditional interpretation, closer to a pickle than the hotter British version, steeped in wine vinegar and garlic. Other options include a Masala Roast Chicken in a mild cashew nut and coconut sauce, and a Parsee Style Lamb Shank simmered in a spiced tomato sauce.

Parsee Heritage and a Culinary Institution

Café Spice Namasté has long been a vital force in introducing Parsee food—the cuisine of Cyrus and Pervin’s culture—to new audiences. The traditional Parsee Sunday roast, Lamb Dhaansaak, remains a fixture, and the restaurant has hosted a popular monthly club showcasing Parsee heirloom dishes.

More than a restaurant, it has been recognised as a culinary institution. It was the first restaurant in the UK to win a National Training Award and has been named one of London’s most sustainable restaurants by both the London Evening Standard and Condé Nast Traveller. In its new home by Royal Albert Wharf, it continues to offer an imaginative and welcoming experience built on a foundation of excellent quality and genuine hospitality.
