Overlooking Viking Bay in Broadstairs, Kebbells is a seafood bar and restaurant built around the idea of togetherness. The space is eclectic and vintage – cosy yet able to accommodate larger parties, with a long bar where guests can watch chefs prepare plates directly in front of them. On warmer days, the terrace offers a genuine holiday feeling, while the interior keeps things informal and welcoming.

Earning a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, Kebbells focuses on the freshest seafood, sourced as locally as possible, with a clear Mediterranean influence. The menu changes with the seasons and is designed for sharing.

What’s on the plate

Dishes come as snacks, small plates and larger plates. Oysters are a staple – either naked or with a dressing of the day. Gambas arrive with confit garlic and herb butter. Roasted scallops come with salsa, chipotle and crispy corn. Tuna tartare is served with Asian dressing, sesame and ponzu. Among larger plates, whole flame-grilled stuffed seabream is a standout, alongside an 8oz sirloin steak with chimichurri.

Vegetarians and vegans are given equal attention: roasted aubergine with courgettes, chickpea panisse and olives sits alongside BBQ tenderstem broccoli with satay. Daily specials might include home-baked focaccia, dayboat fish or crispy shallots.

The drinks list includes a well-edited wine selection (English Chapel Down, Albariño, Picpoul), house cocktails such as the Berry Bellini and Espresso Martini, plus local beers and ciders.

Brunch, private events and more

Kebbells now serves brunch on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The restaurant is available for private hire, intimate special occasions and even weddings. The small space means advance booking is recommended – card details are taken to prevent no-shows, and well-behaved dogs are welcome on a couple of tables.
