The story

Eat Me at the SJT in Scarborough Blends British and Asian Cooking

Roots and relocation

Eat Me at the SJT in Scarborough delivers a straightforward mix of British and Asian cooking across its compact dining room. Fourteen years ago the founders opened this spot to serve meals without pretence. The team recently relocated inside the Stephen Joseph Theatre, though the Good Food Guide awarded it a Local Gem distinction for keeping that steady indie spirit. Guests still find reasonably priced cups of coffee alongside the main offerings.

From the kitchen counter

Head chef Alex G. guides a menu that shifts between global flavours and local expectations. The kitchen prepares house ramen in small batches and tosses Korean fried chicken until the coating crackles under bright lights. Croque monsieur and baked pasta appear regularly during lunch rushes, while weekend brunch draws steady crowds. Even the simplest chip butty arrives dressed with a sharp cheese sauce.

Inside the theatre lobby

The dining area sits directly within the theatre building, making it a natural stop for audiences heading into evening performances. Pre-show guests can secure tables roughly two hours before curtain time, leaving plenty of room to settle in. The layout stays compact and uncluttered, favouring quick turnover over formal tablecloths. Regular patrons appreciate how the British and Asian cooking balances familiar comfort with unexpected spices.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

A move round the corner to Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre hasn't dampened Eat Me's glorious indie spirit or commitment to fair prices and good coffee – though it does offer slightly more wiggle room than the old premises did. A globetrotting menu takes in house ramen, Korean fried chicken and croque monsieur as well as brunch, burgers and baked pasta. Those who curse eccentricity for its own sake would be well advised to keep quiet and have a chip butty with cheese sauce.
