The story

Bon Restaurant Sheffield | French-Inspired Café & Brunch Spot

A French approach to local ingredients

Bon brings a distinctly French culinary approach to Sheffield, drawing on regional produce to shape its daily menu. Recognised as a Local Gem by The Good Food Guide, the kitchen builds its plates around Yorkshire meats and locally foraged vegetables rather than imported staples. This commitment to provenance appears in every preparation, grounding the French café tradition in practical, seasonal sourcing.

The morning menu and coffee program

Visitors typically start with the signature breakfast, which pairs Sheffield-grown slow roasted mushrooms alongside rich boudin noir. The lunch service shifts toward simpler plates like the jambon-beurre baguette. It arrives layered with Yorkshire cured ham and whipped Dijon butter. Coffee receives equal attention through a rotating filter selection that includes detailed producer notes for each pour.

Space and service atmosphere

The dining room maintains a bright, uncluttered layout defined by crisp white walls. Hand-drawn illustrations by Sheffield artist Elizabeth Fortnum hang throughout the space. They add quiet visual interest without overwhelming the architecture. Staff members wear monochrome striped uniforms that echo the venue’s clean aesthetic while hosting regular supper clubs and seasonal tasting events.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

An exemplary coffee shop given a French overlay, serving cakes, breakfasts and fancy baguettes as well as unusually well-made coffee. Resist the 'crème brû-latte' – a gimmicky idea that tops a cappuccino with a crisp burnt-sugar top – and go for a cup of filter, which will come with detailed producer notes. The kitchen’s creations are French in spirit but built from local produce where possible: Yorkshire-cured ham (with whipped Dijon butter) on the jambon-beurre baguette; Sheffield-grown, slow-roasted mushrooms next to boudin noir on the Bon breakfast. Enthusiastic staff in monochrome striped tops complement the interiors, while line drawings from local artist Elizabeth Fortnum bedeck the all-white walls.
