The story
Konjö brings a distinctly urban Asian fusion approach to Sheffield dining, operating from a ground floor stack of repurposed shipping containers. This Asian-inspired cooking programme originally emerged as a street food concept designed to utilise surplus ingredients from neighbouring venue Jöro. The practical origins remain visible in the open layout, which centres around a large robata grill that drove the team to secure a recent Good Food Guide distinction.
Lunch visitors regularly order the gyudon donburi, a bowl anchored by grilled rump cap steak infused with rich smoked beef fat. Sticky rice soaks up a savoury dashi base while caramelised shallots and a glossy soy cured egg yolk provide bright acidity. The main course features a hot smoked beef nugget paired with a tangy Japanese golden curry ketchup. Guests frequently share the Korean fried cauliflower, which arrives with a crunchy, sticky gochujang glaze that proves highly addictive.
Industrial textures and subdued lighting establish a relaxed backdrop that matches the straightforward Asian culinary style. The drink list deliberately steps away from standard pub selections to highlight seasonal creations. A house made soda combines roasted pineapple with Korean chilli powder to cut through heavier meats. Diners frequently accompany their meals with a chilled bottle of Moonlight sake or a crisp single varietal sparkling perry.
