The story

South Street Kitchen Sheffield | Levantine Cuisine & Vegan Dining

The Park Hill setting and founding vision

Opened in March 2018 inside the Park Hill estate, South Street Kitchen brings a Levantine cuisine focus to Sheffield dining. Large windows frame the city skyline while a central prep station keeps flatbreads, pickles and large tubs of Maldon salt visible to every visitor. The founders built the space around sustainable sourcing and straightforward hospitality. This approach earned the venue recognition as a Local Gem in The Good Food Guide 2026.

Chef Martin and the kitchen direction

Chef Martin steers a room that blends Yorkshire produce with a distinct Levantine cooking direction. The menu shifts with the seasons, highlighting aromatic spices, harissa and fresh herbs alongside established favourites. That commitment to plant forward preparation secured the restaurant dual wins as Best Vegan and Vegetarian establishment from Exposed Magazine. Guests can expect dumpling focused evenings and robust flavour profiles rather than heavy meat centred plates.

Visible prep and seasonal plates

A Turkish egg arrives topped with confit garlic yoghurt, charred tenderstem broccoli and a generous dusting of dukkah. Lebanese dishes like crispy potatoes and chocolate brownies finished with salted caramel round out the daytime service. Darkwoods coffee from a nearby West Yorkshire roastery anchors the morning routine. Friday and Saturday evenings extend the hours for craft beers, wines and seasonal cocktails.

The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

The restaurant's huge windows offer impressive views over Sheffield, but vegetarian brunches and lunches are front and centre here – there's a prep station directly in front of the door laden with vegetables, pickles, flatbreads and huge tubs of Maldon salt. The menu has a strong Levantine accent, with lots of harissa, fresh herbs and aromatic spices, all of which are put to excellent use on the Lebanese crispy potatoes or Turkish eggs with their generous layer of confit garlic yoghurt, charred tenderstem broccoli, chilli oil and dukkah. The coffee is from excellent West Yorkshire roastery Darkwoods, and the selection of bakes at the counter often includes chocolate brownies topped with a thick swirl of salted caramel.
